Coon Bay, also known as Sheltered Bay, is a small bay a couple of miles south of Foulweather Bluff near the top of the Hood Canal. The land surrounding the bay belongs to our Driftwood Key community, and it is our intention to care for this natural asset well. This includes...

  • doing what we can to maintain a habitat that accommodates the native wildlife as well as the residents

  • occasional dredging to make the bay usable to recreational boat traffic

  • working with the Docks and Waterfront committee to regulate the marina, private docks, and boat launch

The ad hoc Inner Bay Study Committee has reviewed government agency permitting requirements and Driftwood Key Club’s procedures related to approval of private docks at Driftwood Key. The Board of Trustees appointed the ad hoc committee in response to questions about, and challenges of, the procedures used when evaluating applications for private dock projects and out of concern that the Club’s regulations may conflict with current requirements for permitting by Kitsap County and other agencies. The Committee’s preliminary report is posted for review by members of the Driftwood Key community.
